Spiritual People Inspire Me, Religious People Frighten Me

I was eating lunch with a friend of mine and he mentioned a bumper sticker that he seen on a car in front of him, while he was driving down the road the other day. “Spiritual people inspire me, religious people frighten me.” What does that really mean to you?

Let's start with the spiritual people who actually inspire me. People like Wayne Dyer, Arnold Patent, Don Miguel Ruiz, Louise Hay and the list is endless. These people have helped me to strip away the nonsense. The best way that I could describe it, would be like peeling an onion, one layer at a time until you reach the core of basic unconditional love.

The spiritual people have been my greatest teachers, while the religious people from my past, tend to set bad examples, as they walk through life with their God. Think about it, if you did something wrong, would you rather have a spiritual person, who practices love and compassion around or would you want a religious person, persecuting your past judgments and actions.

Obviously, I could be sued if I named off all of the religious people who frighten me, they simply have more money than I do, right now. Some of these people actually live in my community and stand on the street corners alone or even in large wolf like packs, holding up a large signs, voicing their opinions and trying to impose their religious beliefs onto others in the community who might be indecisive.

A long time ago, you could rarely find these religious people on television. Now, with cable TV and extremely wealthy religious organizations, these people are allowed to express their organizations opinions 24 hours a day.

If that organization is against abortion, homosexuality, women's rights, disciplining our children or even other religions, these religious people aren't selling unconditional love.

If you're a religious person, it's easy to convert and become a spiritual person, but if you're a spiritual person, there is no way in hell, that you would ever think about, becoming a religious person. It would be like finishing college and then starting kindergarten all over again. Once you shed your religious skin, you will never go back.

It's like Alcoholics Anonymous, I am a recovered Christian and have been off Christianity for 27 years. I now consider myself a spiritual person who is seeking the ultimate goal of unconditional love. I would like to state something here, I am still a long way away, but at least I'm on the right path now.
